Introducing DirectGov: A Grassroots Policy Platform

Enabling citizens to draft, debate, and promote policy.

Americans are frustrated with government. Polls consistently show that people feel unheard β€” that the laws being written in Washington don't reflect what ordinary citizens actually want. We watch debates on cable news, argue on social media, and then… nothing changes. The gap between public opinion and public policy keeps growing.

DirectGov exists to close that gap.

We built DirectGov because we believe democracy should be more than picking a name on a ballot every few years. It should be a living conversation β€” one where anyone can propose an idea, refine it through debate, and build real momentum behind it. Today, we're opening the doors and inviting you in.

Why We Built This

The motivation behind DirectGov comes down to a few core beliefs:

  • Everyone deserves a voice. You don't need a law degree or billions of dollars to know what your community needs. A teacher knows what's broken in education funding. A small business owner understands regulatory burden firsthand. That lived experience is valuable β€” and it deserves a seat at the table.
  • We agree on more than you think. Study after study has shown that when you get down to the actual issues, the detailed policies, Americans largely agree. The perception of disagreement is driven by those who make money off of our outrage; those who benefit from our perceived division.
  • Congress Will Act, If We Persist. History shows that our government, as gridlocked as it seems, will respond if the people persist. The billionaires and special interests may pay for attention, but the people have the power of the voting booth. That's real power; let's use it.

How It Works

DirectGov is simple enough for anyone to use, while producing output rigorous enough to be taken seriously. Here's how a proposal moves from idea to action:

1. You Outline a Proposal
Start with a plain-language description of the problem you want to solve and your proposed solution. No legal jargon required β€” just say what you mean.

2. We Draft and Analyze a Bill
Once you submit your draft, our AI agents get to work. They generate a formal congressional bill based on your idea, analyze the costs or savings to the average American family, and assess how the policy would affect different income groups.

3. You Review, Refine, and Publish
Before anything goes live, you review and refine your proposal. After reading the analysis, you can refine your proposal and re-run the analysis. When you're satisfied, hit publish.

4. The Community Engages
Once published, your proposal is open for feedback. Other users can vote on it, leave comments, and debate the merits. Proposals that generate engagement show up in the activity feed and trending sections, giving good ideas natural visibility. You are free to refine or defend your proposal as you'd like.

5. Promote the Proposal
Any user can promote proposals to social media; driving other citizens to join the discussion and promotion. We automatically tag each user's House Representative and Senators in their posts, so elected officials know what we expect from them.

What Makes This Different

There are other platforms where people discuss politics. DirectGov is different because it's action-oriented. We don't just host arguments β€” we produce detailed analysis and bills ready for action in Congress complete with the support and promotion of the citizens of this great country.

Our goal is to make it impossible for elected officials to ignore what their constituents actually want.

We don't claim to have all the answers. But we believe that a democracy where citizens can propose, debate, and rally behind real policy ideas is a healthier democracy than what we have today. DirectGov is our contribution to that future β€” and we're just getting started.

Welcome aboard. Let's govern together.
