Does DirectGov allow multiple profiles per user?

No. DirectGov operates on a one-person, one-profile system.

Why One Profile?

Transparency is one of our core values. When everyone participates under a single identity, it creates accountability and encourages more thoughtful, constructive dialogue.

Multiple profiles can enable users to:
- Artificially amplify their own proposals through self-voting
- Create the appearance of broader support than actually exists
- Engage in less constructive behavior without consequences to their main identity

We believe that the one-profile approach fosters a more supportive, honest community where ideas succeed on their merits rather than manipulation.

What About Privacy?

DirectGov encourages, but does not require, users to display their actual name. You can choose a pseudonym if you prefer.

However, we do require one unique email address per account to maintain the integrity of our community. We never share this email with anyone, on or off the site.

Building Trust

Democracy works best when we trust that the people we're engaging with are genuine participants, not sockpuppets or bots. The one-profile policy is part of how we maintain that trust.
